Related fires in other medical facilities prompted the growing disuse of nitrocellulose stock for X-rays by 1933, nearly two decades before its use was discontinued for motion-picture films in favour of cellulose acetate film, more commonly known as "safety film". Until the revealing of Victor's pool room, the Nathanson household had stood out as being curiously unconnected to other locations in the film. Even though it seems the billiard room scene was not ultimately shot at the Lanesborough, the film itself even seems to present a connection between not only the Nathanson apartment and the billiard room, but the Lanesborough. I've never seen the location of the Nathanson shoot discussed, and if people have been able to pinpoint the billiard room scene as being the Royal Suite at the Lanesborough, I'm assuming that if the Nathanson shoot was there as well then this would also be known. On a billiard table, the playing surface is covered with a green cloth, typically 100% wool, then polished with a layer of sticky resin. Though originally made of ivory, this practice was discontinued in the 1970s. Once molded, the balls are coated with a layer of resin, what is billiards then polished to avoid chips and divots on their surface.

If a player is awarded a free ball with all 15 red balls still in play, they can potentially make a break exceeding 147, with the highest possible being a 155 break, achieved by nominating the free ball as an extra red, then potting the black as the additional colour after potting the free-ball red, followed by the 15 reds with blacks, and finally the colours. MDF tables, though still a fantastic option for casual play, do not possess the longevity of their slate counterparts. Billiard tables and pool tables, in their basic structure, are very similar. Because of the intense contact, you will find most billiard tables are constructed with a solid wood frame. While pool tables are also often made with a solid wood frame, there are lighter-weight models available for those who may want to place their table in storage at times. Finally, the temperature in the garage may be uncomfortable (or unbearable) during much of the year, depending on where you live. Depending on your home’s setup, you may be able to tap into the existing AC system to include the garage. For many people, the garage is the best (or only) place for a home pool table.
A billiards table does not have pockets. And, besides, the Lanesborough does not, as far as I can tell, appear to have a corner room that faces out on two close set neighboring buildings from which such windows could be viewed as observed in the shots from the pool room. The interior hall which leads to the pool room was shot at Luton Hoo Hotel. We have a brief glimpse outside of the hall which is staged to look like that of Luton Hoo but is not. I've seen two photos reputedly of the Lanesborough Royal Suite, one a sitting room and the other a bedroom (I've yet to see anything remotely similar to the pool room in Eyes Wide Shut) and both have floor to ceiling windows, which Victor's pool room does not. In fact, I'm not at all confident that the pool room scene was ultimately filmed at the Lanesborough. The room is not the same room and the doors are not the same doors, but the interior woodwork is exactly the same in both the Nathanson apartment and the pool room. The view we have of the Nathanson room with the pool room woodwork is so swift and abbreviated that it seems Kubrick intends no conscious notice that it shares that same woodwork, but it does, and thus Kubrick creates a connection between the two households, that connection also remarked upon with the red carpet that anticipates the pool table's bright red felt.
If one takes a look at the Lanesborough's surroundings in Googlemaps, there is one but building which could possibly provide a view of a building with close windows. But one of the essential steps of playing Pool games is understanding what the different colored balls mean. The following is a glossary of traditional English-language terms used in the three overarching cue sports disciplines: carom billiards referring to the various carom games played on a billiard table without pockets; pool, which denotes a host of games played on a table with six pockets; and snooker, played on a large pocket table, and which has a sport culture unto itself distinct from pool. Carom games such as straight-rail, three-cushion, balkline, and five pins make use of only three balls: a red object ball, one solid white cue ball for player one, and another cue ball that is white with a dot on it, or yellow, for player two.
