There were cries of 'oh my god' and 'it's the future' as stunned motorists drove by what appeared to be a car without a driver on a busy freeway.

But a closer look would show that this apparently incredible feat was no more than a man dressed up as a front seat.  

Rahat Hossain, better known by his YouTube channel name Magic Of Rahat, set out to make a video fooling people on the road with a driver-less Tesla, which is currently in development.

The 26-year-old spent weeks organizing how he was going to pull off the trick, starting with building the outfit that would allow him to be all-but invisible to other drivers.

Still hanging out the window, the passenger gets out of her phone and starts recording, as do many others 

Hossain custom-made a suit that looked like the driver's seat of a Model S Tesla.

He then pushed the seat back and assumed position behind the wheel.

So that passers-by could only see what he wanted them to, Hossain blackened the back windows, but kept the driver's window down, which gave off the appearance there was no one in the car.

He was able to see through the mesh of his 'helmet' - which looked like a headrest - while he drove with autopilot engaged for more assistance.

In the video posted to his YouTube channel, shocked drivers can be seen going by, unable to comprehend what they are witnessing.

Even this biker, who had a clearer view inside the car than other passers-by in cars, could not believe it

Several cameras attached to the exterior as well as the interior recorded the reactions of passing motorists.

'Oh, there's nobody in that car,' one passing driver shouted. 'Where's the driver?' she asked.

Another man can be heard shouting: 'This is the future.'

One concerned driver pulled alongside, opened his window and shouted: 'Anyone there?', while another asked the driver of the car behind the Tesla if he was somehow driving both at once.

Hossain is a known prankster who uses his YouTube channel to broadcast his well-thought-out - and occasionally controversial - stunts.

Some other videos include 'Drive Thru Invisible Driver Prank' and 'Homeless Lottery Winner', which first shot him to fame.

Last month he posted a video of himself dressed as an old man who ordered an Uber, before secretly taking off the disguise to scare the driver.
